Please join us in congratulating the following four students on advancing to the final round of the Harlan Fiske Stone Moot Court Competition:

  • Madeleine Durbin '21
  • Freya Jamison '21
  • Mai-Lee Picard '21
  • Samuel Truesdell '21

We would also like to extend congratulations to Taylor Sutton '21, who will receive an honorable mention in the Competition based on his participation in the semifinal round run-off argument.

For the first time in recent history, there was a tie for the fourth spot in the final round as both Freya and Taylor each received the same overall score—out to the third decimal place! To break the tie, Freya and Taylor opted to participate in an oral argument runoff on Thursday, March 4, 2021, during spring break. Both students were permitted ten (10) minutes to present oral arguments in front of an independent, three-judge panel that selected the advancing student by a majority vote. Judges were selected based on their familiarity with the problem, their continued commitment to the moot court program, and because they had not previously judged either student thus far in the competition. Stone Director Jillian Williams '21 served as the bailiff for the runoff. We are very thankful to the judges and to the students for helping to make the semifinal runoff such a historic success.

Congratulations again to our finalists, and to all our competitors this year!
