In most western legal systems, restorative justice and mediation function at the periphery of the legal system, but this has not been the case in post-genocide Rwanda, where they have had a central role in the reconstruction of the country from a failed state to that highest-ranked for foreign investment in Africa. This talk will discuss these processes and how their expansion through ongoing law reform contributes to a trauma-informed system of justice in Rwanda.
