About CELA

The Columbia European Law Association provides a vital intellectual and social forum for dialog and initiatives relating to all aspects of European and comparative law and Institutions. It organizes law firm recruitment events, conferences, speaker series, panels and caravans to European agencies, courts, and institutions. CELA also cooperates with other Columbia Law School student organizations on projects of common interest.

Columbia Law School is home to some of the broadest and deepest resources on European Law and Policy outside Europe. Joint degree programs and study abroad opportunities exist with prominent European universities, and Columbia has prominent resident and visiting scholars of European Law on faculty. The Columbia Journal of European Law is one of the most highly regarded and widely read publications of its kind worldwide, there is a long-standing tradition of European Law Moot Court, and ties to SIPA are a major additional asset.

As transatlantic civilian and security co-operation, trade, investment, human rights and civil society develop and expand, the Columbia European Law Association particularly welcomes and promotes social, scholarly and professional exchange between JD, LL.M. and JSD students with background, training or substantial interest in the theory and practice of European law and policy. At CELA, we actively solicit and invite regular input from graduate law students as an important means of knowledge transfer and contributions to a lively exchange between different philosophies, methodologies and legal systems that still share a common heritage and often reach similar conclusions by different avenues.
