A key focus of the New Jersey Chapter of SWEP is to provide scholarships to women who are pursuing studies related to the environment with an intended commitment to pursue a career in the environmental field.
NJSWEP provides scholarships to encourage women to pursue careers in the environmental industry; to mentor students with environmentally-related majors; and provide students connections to SWEP’s membership for future internships/careers in the environmental industry.
Award Benefits: Each year, we grant scholarship money to two women, one in undergraduate studies and one graduate studies. The amount of the award has been between $1,000 and $2,000, dependant on the success of our fundraising activities. The scholarships have been awarded in one lump sum to recipients, along with a free SWEP New Jersey Chapter membership.
Eligibility: For both scholarships, the applicants must be female and a United States citizen (or hold permanent resident status). The undergraduate student must be entering her junior year or have completed 60 credit hours. The graduate student must either start or continue graduate or law study. A minimum GPA of 3.0 (scale of 4.0) or its equivalent and a declared major in a field related to the environment are also required. Please see the application for details.
Application Guidelines: Typically applications are submitted from December through February, and the award notifications occur each spring/summer. For more information and to apply visit the NJSWEP website.
