As one of the few Afro-Brazilian female Federal Judges in Brazil, Judge Adriana Cruz will offer a perspective on the racial and gender justice challenges inside the Brazilian judiciary. She seeks to demonstrate how racism and patriarchy manifest in the judiciary and addresses institutional initiatives that are being developed to challenge the inequalities prevalent in the Brazilian justice system.
Adriana Cruz is a Federal Judge at the 5th Trial Court of Rio de Janeiro in charge of money laundering offences and financial crimes and teaches criminal law at Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). She holds a Master degree in Constitutional Law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and a PhD in Criminal Law from University of Rio de Janeiro Law School. Cruz is also a professor at National Judicial School where she lectures judicial practices with gender and race perspective.
