The panel will consist of:
- Professor T. Alexander Aleinikoff, who is a Visiting Professor of Law at Columbia, Senior Fellow at the Migration Policy Institute in Washington, D.C, United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva from 2010-2015, Co-chair of Immigration Task Force for President Obama’s transition team, and, from 1994-1997, General Counsel, and Executive Associate Commissioner for Programs, at the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). Professor Alienkoff is co-author of Immigration and Citizenship: Process and Policy (7th ed. 2011) (with David A. Martin, Hiroshi Motomura, & Maryellen Fullerton) and author of the forthcoming The Arc of Protection, a book focusing on reforming the international refugee regime, among many other publications.
- Professor Rose Cuison Villazor, who is a Visiting Professor of Law at Columbia, and Professor of Law and Martin Luther King, Jr. Hall Research Scholar at the University of California at Davis School of Law. Professor Villiazor is co-editor with Gabriel “Jack” Chin, of the forthcoming Legislating a New America: The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 and Its Contributions to Law and Society (Cambridge University Press) and author of numerous other publications.
- Laura Canali, who is Gender Based Violence Regional Advisor for the Middle East at the International Medical Corps, and previously worked at the American Refugee Committee and International Rescue Committee, among others.
- Kendall Collins, who is a 3L at Columbia Law School, and whose note on Rethinking the Employment Status of Refugees in the United States is forthcoming in the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law. A non-pizza lunch will be served
