Launched by President Reagan in the 1980s and available through the early 1990s, the U.S. private sponsorship program was successful in admitting over 16,000 refugees. As individuals and organizations in the United States seek to assist those caught in the worst refugee crisis since WWII, there is increasing support for a private sponsorship program in the United States. However, before any such program is
put into place, the potential value and harm of private sponsorship should be carefully considered.
Professor Villazor is looking to get feedback on her recent project on the proposed program, and after Ms. Foydel own comments, students will have the opportunity to provide their thoughts on the topic and Professor Villazor's proposals. For more information on the proposed U.S. private sponsorship program, please see the attached executive summary of a recent IRAP paper.
