Are International Arbitrators Judges or Juries?

Jan Dalhuisen is a well-known international commercial arbitrator, former member of the ICSID Panel of arbitrators and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is Emeritus Professor (recalled) at King’s College London, Dickson Poon School of Law, and is a regular Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley. He holds the Chair in Transnational Financial Law at the Catholic University in Lisbon. He graduated from the University of Amsterdam, where he also received his PhD, and from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a Corresponding Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and Member of the New York Bar. He is the author of, among others, Dalhuisen on Transnational and Comparative Commercial, Financial and Trade Law, (three Volumes) (Oxford 6th ed 2016) and has taught at the Tsinghua University in Beijing, the University of New South Wales in Sydney, the University of Hong Kong, the National University of Singapore, the University of Utrecht, and the University of Tel Aviv. He is a former senior in-house lawyer and investment banker.
