LL.M. Alumni Panel: Career Development in the U.S

Join us for our first career event this year, LL.M. Alumni Panel: Career Development in the U.S. on Friday, October 14th, 12:30 - 1:30 PM. The event will be held in person at WJ208 (William and June Warren Hall). A pizza lunch will be provided. 

We invited three LLM alumni in international arbitration with more recent experience in securing a position in the U.S. The event will feature a panel discussion guided by your submitted questions, followed by a Q&A. Panelists will share their insights and experience in the job search/networking process, representing a diversity of nationalities and backgrounds. JD students will also benefit from connecting with alumni deeply committed to the success of the CLS arbitration community.

Panelist Bios: 

Elena Leyva Ruiz

After completing her LL.M. at Columbia Law School, Elena joined White & Case as an international arbitration fellow in DC, where she focuses on international investment arbitration in Latin America, Europe and Asia. Prior to her LL.M. at Columbia Law School, Elena worked in the Development and Cooperation Directorate at the European Commission, and as an arbitration trainee at the French law firm Gide. Elena holds a double degree in German-French Law, and a tripartite Master from Sorbonne, Sciences Po and Columbia Law School; moreover, she is fluent in Spanish, English, French, German and Italian.

Gustavo Favero Vaughn

Gustavo Favero Vaughn is an International Lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb in New York. His practice focuses on international litigation and arbitration, with an emphasis in Latin America. Gustavo has masters degrees from Columbia Law School and the University of São Paulo. He is a Senior Advisor of the American Review of International Arbitration (ARIA) and Co-Chair of the Academic Council of R.E.A.L.

Wilson Wang

Yifan (Wilson) Wang is an Associate at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, based in New York.  Wilson represents clients in cross-border disputes, investigations, and MDB sanctions and compliance, particularly in China-related matters.

Wilson completed his LL.M. study at CLS during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a laser focus on international commercial and investment arbitrations.  He worked as LL.M. President of CIAA, LL.M. Editor for The American Review of International Arbitration, and Research Assistant to Professor George Bermann.  Beyond CLS, he also volunteered for arbitration related sessions, including those hosted by UNCITRAL Working Group III on ISDS Reform and Campaign for Greener Arbitrations. He is also a dedicated Vis Mootie and a Mentee under the Young ICCA Mentoring Programme.
